Means finished third at 235 pounds, winning her final bout over Sophia Brown of Shelbyville by medical forfeit.
Southwestern's wrestling coaching staff and head coach Shain Bates said Means’ performance came while she was “the only girl in the lineup,” adding that “being the only girl in the lineup takes courage and commitment, and Mikayla has shown both this season.”
Means is an Altonized Community Federal Credit Union Female Athlete Of The Month for the Piasa Birds.
“We’re proud of her and excited to see her continue competing,” Coach Bates and his staff said.
Means will compete at the girls' wrestling sectional at DeKalb this upcoming weekend.
