JACKSONVILLE - Civic Memorial High School’s girls wrestling team came up one point short of a regional title over the weekend in Jacksonville, finishing second at the IHSA girls wrestling Illinois School for the Deaf Regional and advancing seven wrestlers to next week’s sectional.
Springfield won the team crown with 126.5 points, edging Civic Memorial 126.5-125.5. Chatham Glenwood was third with 101 points, Jacksonville High was fourth with 83.5 points, and Roxana rounded out the top five with 57 points.

Civic Memorial “won two weight classes and advanced seven to the sectional,” according to results from the event. Chloe Rice and Izabella Darr placed first for the Eagles. Audrey Whipple, Claire Shaw, and Laila Earney each finished second. Averi Lowe and Lillian McGuiggan placed fourth.
The Eagles girls wrestling squad members are Tom Lane State Farm Insurance Female Athletes of the Month.
“Congrats to our girls wrestling team for finishing second (by 1 point) in the regional today,” Civic Memorial High School's Athletic Department said in a statement over the weekend. “These ladies will compete in the Sectional next week.”
