
WOOD RIVER — Southwestern used a dominant second and third quarters to pull away from East Alton-Wood River in a 47-10 boys basketball victory Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026.

The Piasa Birds took control early and then broke the game open by outscoring the Oilers 18-0 in the second quarter to build a 27-5 halftime lead.
Trenton Brackett led Southwestern with 14 points, and Connor Wood added 11. Reed Campbell and Carter Bacon scored six points apiece, while Mason Eyers and Carter Watson each had four poinra. John Kunz finished with two points.
Southwestern led 9-5 after the first quarter. The Piasa Birds then outscored East Alton-Wood River 18-5 in the third quarter to put the game away, before a 2-0 edge in the fourth.
East Alton-Wood River is now 12-12 overall.
Southwestern will host Metro East Lutheran High on Wednesday night and travel to Vandalia on Friday night.
