Steve F. Johnson, 39, of Litchfield, Ill., was charged on Jan. 20, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery and a Class 4 felony count of unlawful restraint.
Johnson allegedly intentionally committed an act of domestic battery against an individual victim on Jan. 18, 2026. On the same date, he reportedly unlawfully refused to allow the same victim to leave the residence in Fieldon.
The Jersey County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Johnson’s pretrial release from custody in this case. The petition states Johnson “has a history of violence,” including a prior domestic battery arrest from 2022 in Madison County, as well as two prior arrests in Jersey County for residential burglary, both in 2016.
According to the petition, Johnson ultimately plead guilty to an amended charge of battery in the Madison County case. His second residential burglary charge in Jersey County was dismissed after he plead guilty to the first count of burglary from his first 2016 Jersey County burglary case.
Following a Jan. 21, 2026 hearing on the state’s petition in this latest case, Jersey County court records indicate Johnson was granted pretrial release from custody under certain conditions. He has been ordered to undergo an alcohol evaluation and is subject to a GPS Electronic Monitoring Order, with a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 9, 2026.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
