At the Southern Illinois Police Chief’s Association Awards Banquet on Thursday night, Jan. 22, 2026, seven telecommunicators from five different public safety answering points were honored for their exceptional service during various incidents within their jurisdictions. The awards recognized telecommunicators from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Granite City Police Department, Edwardsville Police Department, Collinsville Police Department, and the Wood River Police Department.
The event, held annually, marked an unprecedented number of telecommunicators receiving commendations this year, highlighting the critical role these individuals play in public safety operations.

The Madison County 911 Administration and Emergency Telephone System Board expressed gratitude to the administrators and police chiefs who nominated the recipients.
“We don’t believe that this many telecommunicators have received awards in the many years the SIPCA Banquet has been held,” the Madison County 911 Administration said in a statement. “This proves that our telecommunicators play a vital role in the public safety circle, and finally recognized as First Responders.”
