EDWARDSVILLE - Community members are invited to mingle and talk history at the Madison County Historical Society’s upcoming winter wine and cheese reception.
From 4:30–7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at 715 N. Main Street in Edwardsville, Madison County Historical Society (MCHS) encourages members of the public to enjoy an evening of snacks, sips and live jazz. Attendees can chat about local history and get to know the society.
“You’ll just have a lovely evening,” promised Cindy Reinhardt with MCHS. “The building itself is wonderful to see because it’s an 1836 building. There will be live jazz. There will be refreshments. And best of all is the people that come. It’s wonderful to interact with those folks.”
MCHS Board member Wilbert Glasper is “renowned” in St. Louis for his saxophone talents, Reinhardt added, and he will provide live jazz throughout the evening. Reinhardt joked that, even though she doesn’t eat cheese or drink wine, she is still thoroughly looking forward to the chance to connect with the community at the reception.
There are no tickets, but MCHS suggests a $25 donation at the door. This can be paid via cash, check or credit card.
Funds raised during the reception will go toward operating expenses for the Madison County History Museum and Archival Library. Reinhardt noted the value of these resources.
“If you’re involved in local history and doing any kind of research, you of course go to the Madison County Archival Library, because it’s a wonderful source for people that are either researching their family or their building or just looking at the history of the county,” Reinhardt said. “You just never know what you’re going to find there. They have unique resources that you won’t find anywhere else.”
MCHS receives no public funding, so their work is fully funded through donations and the community’s support. They put out regular newsletters with information about Madison County history, and they host a speakers’ series every year.
Their first speaker of the year is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2026, at the Main Street Community Center. MCHS will also benefit from a chicken dinner planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Edwardsville Moose Lodge.
Reinhardt expressed her appreciation for the organizations, businesses and community members that support MCHS and their mission to preserve and share local history.
“We try to make history accessible for everyone,” she added. “It’s a never-ending supply of historical events and buildings and people that we can explore. There’s always something new.”
She encourages people to come out for any of their events, but she is especially excited for the wine and cheese reception on Jan. 28. She hopes to see many community members join them.
