Kevin Reiseck, the boys' cross country coach at Metro East Lutheran, praised Shank’s performance at the state meet.
“He was our No. 2 and ran a 15:45 at state,” Reiseck said. “He had a great time at the state time. He was looking all year to break 16 minutes and he broke through the 16-minute barrier with flying colors at state. He was pumped up and helped us a lot at state and in the postseason in the regional and sectional.”
Looking ahead, Shank is considering continuing his athletic career at Kaskaskia Junior College for two years, Reiseck said.
