WOOD RIVER — The East Alton-Wood River Lady Oilers fell to the Southwestern Lady Piasa Birds 34-22 Wednesday night in a makeup game from earlier this year. The game, held in Wood River, saw Southwestern take an early lead and maintain control throughout the contest.

Southwestern started strong, outscoring the Oilers 15-2 in the first quarter. The Lady Piasa Birds extended their advantage to 24-9 by halftime. EAWR rallied in the third quarter, fueled by a few three-pointers, narrowing the gap to 27-20 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Southwestern secured the win by limiting the Oilers to just two points while adding seven of their own.

EAWR was led by Kaylynn Buttry, who scored 18 points, and Ryann Adams, who contributed six.

For Southwestern, Grace Williams led with 11 points and Bella Kirby added six.
