While participating in soccer and cheerleading as a freshman at Alton High, Husna became interested in Upward Bound, a group of over 50 members that focuses on preparing students for the next level of education. Husna added that the group does community service, and she has also assisted in recruiting new freshmen to join the group.

In being a member of Upward Bound, she has been able to tour a number of different colleges across the country, including Texas A&M University, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and also Washington University in St. Louis.

Husna gives a lot of credit to her moderator Ms. Stacy Herrin who helps students write college resumes and assists families with questions on FAFSA forms.

Husna said that she has always felt welcomed by the group and appreciates all of the members. She was also excited to introduce her younger sister as a new member as well.

According to Husna, the members of the Upward Bound group push you to be the best you can be academically or athletically, and also help students figure out what they want to study in college. Members need to have and carry a minimum of a 3.7 GPA to join/remain in good standing with the group.

Husna currently has a 4.1 GPA and is taking AP and dual credit classes such as Spanish 3, AP U.S. History, and Bio II Honors.

She is also a part of Spanish Club and Interact club (similar to Rotary), where students contribute to the local Alton/Godfrey community.

Husna would like to attend UCLA or Washington University upon her graduation from Alton High and wants to study International Law to fully utilize her bilingual skills in both English and Arabic.
