Officer Jack Stalcup.EAST ALTON — Officer Jack Stalcup Jr., a dedicated law enforcement professional who served the community for more than four decades, died suddenly on Dec. 25, 2025, at his residence. He was 69.

The East Alton Police Department described Stalcup’s passing as sudden and said it will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

"Heroes take on many forms, but someone who served their community with such pride and distinction is without a doubt a hero," the East Alton Police Department said in a statement. "May Jack never be forgotten."

Stalcup joined the East Alton Police Department in 2018 after a long tenure with the South Roxana and Hartford police departments. His law enforcement career spanned over 40 years, including 32 years with the Village of South Roxana, where he retired as a lieutenant in 2012. Following that, he served as an officer and lead evidence officer in East Alton for 11 years.

In addition to his police duties, Stalcup was actively involved in the local community through the Park and Recreation Department. He coordinated youth sports programs and volunteered at numerous village-sponsored events.

Born on December 9, 1956, in Kirkwood, Missouri, Stalcup was the son of Jack Sr. and JoAnn (Coxen) Stalcup. He married Dawn Marquis on July 28, 2007, in Roxana. She survives him.

Stalcup is also survived by his son, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Stalcup of Alton; two daughters, Courtney (Chris) Wood of Belleville and Gabryelle Parker-Stalcup of East Alton; four grandchildren, Chloe Wood, Kolten Stalcup, Eleanor Stalcup, and Alyvia Stalcup; two brothers, Daniel (Jessica) Stalcup of Louisiana and Jeffrey Stalcup of Florida; and two sisters, Diane (Robert) Gowens and Denise Stalcup, both of Jacksonville, Florida.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Darren Carlton officiating.
