While the blaze had since been contained, Jerseyville firefighters were still working around 9:45 a.m. on Monday to clear fire-damaged debris from the inside of the still-smoking structure, using ladders to clear debris from the upper floor of the two-story home as officers secured the perimeter of the scene.

Jerseyville Fire Chief Keith Norman, EMS Coordinator Nathan Bishop with the Jersey Community Hospital Ambulance Association, and several other Jerseyville Police and Fire Department personnel were on scene, along with members of the Jersey County Sheriff's Department.

Emergency responders at the time were unable to confirm the exact cause of the fire, which remains under investigation. Stay tuned to Riverbender.com for more details as they become available.
