HAMEL - Students at Hamel Elementary School and Midway Elementary School in Edwardsville School District #7 received a visit from Fredbird, the St. Louis Cardinals mascot, and former Cardinals pitcher Al Hrabosky on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025.

The event aimed to promote teamwork and positive classroom behavior.
Hrabosky, who played Major League Baseball from 1970 to 1982 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Atlanta Braves, joined Fredbird to share an important message with students about being a good teammate and classmate.
The duo emphasized three key principles: be active, be responsible, and be yourself.
The visit included interactive moments filled with laughter and learning, with Fredbird adding his signature antics to engage the children.
The Edwardsville School District expressed gratitude to the St. Louis Cardinals and their Fredbird and Friends program for delivering a meaningful lesson to the students.
Hrabosky is also known as a color commentator for the Cardinals' regular-season pre-game and post-game broadcasts.
