The Foundation’s demolition partner, Spirtas Wrecking Company and its subcontractor Environmental Operations, Inc., has completed environmental remediation of the central building and south tower, allowing for structural demolition to begin. The demolition will continue in phases over the next two years, beginning with the central building, followed by the south tower, and concluding with the north tower.

“A bold new chapter is underway for Downtown St. Louis,” said Ryan McClure, Executive Director of Gateway Arch Park Foundation. “As we continue our forward momentum for this critical part of downtown, the Foundation remains committed to preserving the history and memories made at this former hotel site to ensure the past remains a meaningful part of the future we are creating together.”

With an eye on the future, the Foundation remains committed to preserving the stories that took place in and around the Arch grounds and has launched a story-collecting initiative to keep the memories of this cultural site alive. The Foundation encourages the community to share their memories of all iterations of this site so its impact can be felt by generations to come.
