About this event

UKE 66 in Words & Song Hayner Library at Alton Square Mall Performance Room Tuesday, September 15, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Join the carefree sounds of summer with UKE 66! Rick and Karen Maxson form the core of this ukulele band which has performed for audiences across the Midwest, West Coast, Japan, Mexico, and Hawaii. In Hawaii, they earned first place in both group (2019-2020) and solo categories, as well as Best Original Music (2019) at the International Ukulele Contest. UKE 66 plays a mix of original songs and covers, ranging from Hawaiian nostalgia to jazz, swing, blues, and pop. This year, in honor of the Route 66 Centennial, the Maxtons are presenting “Route 66 in Word and Song,” a one-hour program featuring songs and stories that span the Depression era, WWII, and the post-war “Golden Era.” Like the highway that inspired their name, they believe that all people can come together, regardless of age, and get their kicks with UKE 66! Please call 1-800-613-3163 to register for this program.
