Join up with our stewardship team and other volunteers to clear out honeysuckle and other invasive species at The Nature Institute. This workday is scheduled in collaboration with the Missouri Botanical Garden as a way to get people all across the Metro-east clearing our valuable native habitats of harmful invasive species.
Participants will get a quick lesson on how to identify bush honeysuckle and a few other easy to identify invasive species. Then with hand tools and manual pulling, the whole group will work in an area to clear as much as we can. Herbicide will be used sparingly by trained staff members to "paint" the stumps, helping to knock back the regrowth as much as possible.
The workday will run from 9am to 12pm on March 22. Be sure to bring a bottle of water, gloves, bug spray, and sunscreen. Long pants and close-toed shoes are required to participate in the workday. Park in the rock lot at Talahi Lodge. Bathrooms will be available before and after the workday.
