Archeology Day

This is a past event that has already occured.

About this event

Annual, Free, All-ages event, You’re invited to spend a day exploring the fascinating 12,000-year history of west central Illinois through fun, hands-on activities, informational exhibits, and presentations about the current research being done by CAA archaeologists.

In 2022 with funding from the Two Rivers Art Council and Calhoun County Art Guild, we welcome A.J. Hendershott. A.J. will be demonstrating and instructing visitors on the art of cutting oak splints for basketry. He will also offer a presentation on his basketry work using traditional materials.

We will also have beading demonstration by Kiowa tribe member Kathy Dickerson, a ceramic firing demonstration assisted by Susan Bostwick, and a spear throwing competition using atlatls.

Visit the German site now in the fourth year of excavation, have your artifacts identified by an archaeologist, and listen to presentations about archaeology both local and abroad.
