About this event

Allied Forces began the liberation of Europe on D-Day 75 years ago and 1944 was also notable for the Dumbarton Oaks Conference that laid the foundation for the creation of the United Nations. In music, Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring was premiered. Concertmaster David Halen and members of the St. Louis Symphony will perform the original version of this glorious work, and Halen plays Copland’s Violin Sonata, also from the era.
