His work goes back 50+ years drawing inspiration from his time growing up in the country on a farm and exploring new landscapes as well as local cityscapes. He was a photographer for a while, but wanted to see what could be done without a camera. Ursprung likes the process that goes into drawing and painting, and he likes to mix mediums. He says that “art is like music; it switches around. Abstract art teaches you to free up a bit.” He focuses on drawing and painting in different mediums of pen & ink, watercolor, oils, and a hybrid of ink and colored pencil. He enjoys the freedom of watercolor and abstraction.
