About this event

Bald Eagle release! This Bald Eagle was admitted last year after it was found weak and lethargic on a dead coyote. After admission, we quickly determined that the Bald Eagle had been poisoned. Luckily, the Bald Eagle had come in quick enough that we were able to save it. The Eagle now has its strength back and is ready to return home! Come witness this Bald Eagle return to the wild and learn about our mission!

How did the Bald Eagle get poisoned? Any time poison is introduced into the environment, there is always the risk that it'll affect species it was never intended for. For example, rat poison is commonly put out around homes to help control the rodent population. Unfortunately, when these rodents eat the poison, they do not die right away. Instead, they wander off and become an easy meal for a predator. The poison does not breakdown but instead can continue to move up the food chain, poisoning all of the animals connected. In this case, a coyote that died from poison which was fed on by a Bald Eagle which then also became poisoned. How can we avoid this? Choose other methods besides poison to control rodent populations, such as snap traps!

We hope to see you there!
