The YWCA Racial Justice Committee is sponsoring a free showing of the movie/documentary "13th" directed by Ava DuVernay. In this thought provoking documentary, scholars, activitists, and politicians analyze the criminalization of the African Americans and the US prison boom. The US leads the world in incarceration and the fuel that feeds this statistic is the mythology of black criminality.
The showing will begin at 630 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017, in the YWCA Lobby, 304 E. Third St., Alton, IL. Following the showing of the documentary, there will be discussion lead by racial justic experts. Refreshments will be served following the showing of the documentary.
Please RSVP for this event by calling the YWCA of Alton at 618.465.7774 or emailing the staff at info@altonywca.com.
The YWCA is proudly sponsored by the following businesses: Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery, BJC Healthcare, Simmons, Hanley, & Conroy, and Morrissey Contracting Company, Inc.
