The Youth Engagement Program (YEP) will sponsor a Mayoral Voter’s Forum held at the Alton YWCA, 304 E. Third St., Alton, IL from 2pm to 4 pm. All four candidates are expected to attend.High school youth will facilitate the event with assistance from YEP Sponsors, Alton Salvation Army, Today’s Place and the Alton YWCA.In addition to the Mayor’s Voters Forum, information will be provided on the functions of the city of Alton government, role of the Mayor and voter registration.Area high school student attendance is encouraged but event is open to the general public.
The Alton School District has been extremely supportive of the Youth Engagement Program Mayoral Voter’s Forum.Alton High School staff assisted high school students with developing questions for the mayoral candidates.Marissa Whiteside, Event Coordinator, stated that “this event will educate our teens about local government.Students who can or will soon be able to vote will get critical information about registering and voting and information vital to making a good decision while voting.”
