ALTON – Bankside Repertory Theatre Company kicks off its second season at Jacoby Arts Center with a production of Who Am I This Time (& Other Conundrums of Love) by Aaron Posner, based on the folksy short stories of Kurt Vonnegut.
The Company’s professional actors and directors perform in the East Gallery two weekends in September, Thursday through Saturday: Sept. 8, 9, 10 and Sept. 15, 16, 17. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the fifth full-length production that Bankside has produced at Jacoby, enjoying its position as the Arts Center’s “resident professional theater.”
“Through an agreement with Actor’s Equity Association, Bankside is quickly establishing itself as the source for delightful and sometimes off-the-wall theater offerings,” says Geoff Callaway, producing director and cast member of Who Am I This Time? Previous Bankside Rep productions included Love Letters and Hidden in This Picture.
Posner’s Who Am I This Time? takes the short stories by Kurt Vonnegut and sews them together in the context of a Midwestern town that supports a small, community theater troupe. North Crawford window installer Tom Newton leads the audience through an exploration of love: young love, seasoned love, unexpected love and restored love. Through a community theatre production of Tennessee Williams’ classic play A Streetcar Named Desire, the audience learns from the play-within-a-play the romantic entanglements of onstage love and how it might look differently in the light of day. In another story, a soldier returns home to surprise his lifelong love. And when a famous Hollywood star needs new windows in her bathroom, Tom arrives to help iron out some marital problems – at no extra charge.
Featured actors are founding members of the Company Chrissy Calkins Steele, Sue Ellen Coughtry, Geoff Callaway and John J. O’Hagan. Directed by Caleb King, the cast will include Scott Brady, an experienced actor and talented musician local to the River Bend who is making his debut with the company.
Also making their professional debuts with Bankside Rep are Mason Brown, Kelsey Whitney, Brendan O’Hagan, Olivia Steele and Trina Boyce. The production stage manager is Cheri Hawkins.
“Cheri is known for her comedic and improv skills, which make her a real asset for this production, which is a tricky comedy,” says Callaway.
Tickets are $15, reduced to $10 on Thursdays only. They can be purchased at the door or follow the link at http://jacobyartscenter.org/event-2240415. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open 30 minutes in advance and a cash bar is available.
