SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ promises to be the hottest joint in town! This Tony Award nominated and Grammy Award winning tribute to legendary songwriters Leiber and Stoller is a dazzling song and dance celebration of over 40 of rock n rolls greatest hits including “HoundDog”, “Stand by Me”, “Yakety Yak “, “Jailhouse Rock“, “Spanish Harlem”, “On Broadway”, “Kansas City”, Love Potion #9”, “Fools Fall in Love”, and many more. The New York Times claimed “Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller were the Rodgers and Hammerstein of rock n roll”.
Alfresco Productions continues its 2016 broadway season with this wildly infectious song and dance revue on June 17,18, 24, and 25th, at the Alfresco Arts Center, 2041 Delmar, Granite City, IL. Smokey Joe’s Café is being directed by Lisa Garcia Fensterman. Musical direction is by Joel Hackbarth and Choreography is by Fensterman and Chris Kernan. The nine talented cast members include Kernan, Kimmie Kidd Booker, Jacob Cowley, Sarah Dowling, Michelle Jacques, Marshall Jennings, Kathy Piercy, and Christopher Strawhun,
Tickets are $15.00 and may be reserved by visiting the Alfresco Productions website at AlfrescoProductions.org. All performances begin at 7:30pm, with door opening one hour prior to show time. All reserved tickets must be picked up 15 minutes prior to show time, or they may be sold. All Tickets are general admission seating. Assisted entrance is located on the Delmar side of the building.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe not only promises to be entertaining, but also emotionally engaging as the audience joins the performers on a journey through the stages of life that begins with their friends “In The neighborhood” blowing off steam, getting ready for the hop, leaving home, having credit problems, getting drunk, getting into trouble, getting religion and then finally reminiscing about the old friends and the neighborhood they left behind. In the end, even though their lives had not turned out like expected, they find a new sense of community in “Stand By Me”
