@ The Nature Institute

About this event

Join us at Heartland Prairie at Gordon Moore Park in Alton for these biweekly hikes.

Walks begin at 5:30 p.m.

May walks will focus on spring plants and birds. Bill Long will discuss plants and Stacia Novy will help identify migrating birds.

We will discuss the plants in our newer sections at the observation deck until approximately 6:00 p.m. so if you are running late, you can still meet us in the front section of the prairie.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, binoculars and a plant identification book. Drinks and snacks will be served after the walk.

Extra Session

At 5:00 p.m. on the nights of the walks, we will also be offering a short, hands-on class explaining how to start and maintain a prairie. The class will focus on identifying native plants and eliminating invasives. Bring questions, protective gloves and clippers if possible.
