“If you’ve ever seen Switchback before, they’re amazing,” Cordes said. “This is a concert that people pay a lot of money for the tickets, but ours is free – so anyone that wants to come, we just ask people to register.”

Later this month, author Cheryl Eichar Jett will explore the contributions made by women along Route 66 as the historic highway marks its 100th anniversary in 2026. A discussion on her new book, Aprons Away: Women’s Work on Route 66, is set for 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 at the library’s Alton Square Mall location in the upstairs performance room.

The library district is also highlighting the 30th anniversary of the 1996 hit film Twister with an Interactive Movie Night on Saturday, July 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at their Alton Square Mall location. In addition to popcorn and refreshments, audience members will be given props to participate as library staff guide attendees through a fun, elevated movie-watching experience.
