St. Mary's celebrated its 11th annual Oktoberfest. "The first St. Mary’s was built for the German Catholic community in Alton in May 1859," as stated by St. Mary's website. In recognition of this fact, St. Mary's annual Oktoberfest provides live music, German food, children's games, auctions, and a ceremonial keg tapping that begins Saturday's festivities. The event spans the entire weekend and is the church's biggest fund raiser.
