I got into my line of work because I love stories.

When I was a kid I read a lot of comic books and mythologies, and they were great for the imagination. Now that they tell me I'm a grown-up...I tell very different stories but with the same kind of open mind: news-related, public interest, local business, humanitarian stories...Instead of larger-than-life characters and sensationalized tales, let's talk about everyday folks just doing some good here and there...

Race Director Robin Rongey invited us out again this year to catch the February Freeze Trail Run in Grafton. It sure wasn't freezing this year, with the oddly warm weather we had this weekend, but that didn't make things any easier for these crazy runners!
Riverbender.com is excited to begin our new feature series, Explore the Riverbend. To start things off, here's a look at the organization that maintains, promotes, and staffs one of the RiverBend's greatest natural attractions, The Nature Institute.
The town of Jerseyville banded together this past Friday in support of one of their own, Johnny Wade. Johnny received some pretty awful medical news as lat year came to a close. He and his family only moved to Jerseyville a little while ago, but the town was quick to embrace them, as they have shown...
Director Kate Kite and the gang at the Wood River Public Library had a very special show lined up last Monday...the most spot-on Teddy Roosevelt "repriser" we, or anyone else, had ever seen! Joe Wiegand has portrayed the 26th President all over the country, and even at the White House!
This Saturday the Itchy Brothers were back at it at the Confluence Tower, using all manner of chainsaws, torches, and power tools to create some beautiful wood artwork. Itchy Brother Don Johnson gave us an inside look at what they do, how they do it, and how it all started...
A lot folks are working harder these days just to get by. Vicky Schlueter is no different...except that, due to an accidental fire in her home, she has been working just like the rest of us through the winter...without a working furnace... Well, Vicky works as an interpreter at St. Matthew's and...
Alton Little Theater is once again, after about thirty years, presenting the dramatic comedy that hits us all "close to home"....Alone Together. It's a fun family tale about two parents who've come to enjoy their empty nest years, only to have their nest unexpectedly filll back up (all at once) and...
Mission American Gratitude put on an extra special Welcome Home this Sunday, honoring the return of Cpl. Jordan Cook from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. American Gratitude representatives, and the planners of this event, Rodney and Gretchen Cook (Jordan's Mom and Dad!) made a strong point o...
Harvey Russell has been making elaborate ice carvings for 11 years! For this year's Audubon Eagle festival he and his associates came out from Ice Visions in St. Louis to carve a handful of real (but temporary) masterpieces. Here's what he had to say about being an ice sculptor...
We sat down with parents, Jarrod and Tami, to talk about the tremendous journey that their son, Blake, endured from birth on his way back to wellness. Their story may not be for the feint of heart, but it certainly ends with a happy note!
