Rohland H. Pruetzel, 87 of Alton, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 5, 1939, in Belleville, IL, the son of Rohland F. and Irene (Hettenhausen) Pruetzel. On his birthday in 1974, he married Susan J. Henesey in Green Acres, Florida.
Rohland began a long and distinguished career in carpentry as a young man. A skilled builder, he earned a reputation for precision workmanship, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to doing things right the first time. In 2025, he proudly received his 60-year union membership pin, a milestone reflecting his lifelong dedication to his craft.
A lifelong car enthusiast, Rohland's true passion was automobiles, especially his beloved 1939 Chevrolet. He enjoyed attending and participating in car shows and drove his '39 to several national events. He also enjoyed weekly lunches and gatherings with the buddies in "The FBI" (Fat Boys of Illinois).
Rohland was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran and, above all, a devoted family man. His children and grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife, Susan J. "Susie" Pruetzel, Dana Pruetzel, Amy (Scott) Maberry, Randy (Amy) Pruetzel, and Jackie Rushton Fennewald; nine grandchildren, Jordan (Matt) Rea, Sydnee (Samatha) Maberry, Ella Maberry, Gavin Mills, Joe Mills, Maggie Pruetzel, Reid Pruetzel, Maddy Fennewald, and Claire Fennewald. Two great grandchildren, Liam Rea and Caroline Rea; a brother, Tom Pruetzel; a sister, Kathy Fillingham along with several other nieces, nephews and extended family.
Throughout Rohland's health challenges, the kindness of friends, neighbors, and the dedication of his healthcare providers made a lasting difference in his life. His family will always be grateful for the many acts of kindness, the prayers, the helping hands, and the compassion shown along the way.
Gent Funeral Home & Cremation Services have been entrusted with cremation rites. A Celebration of Life to celebrate Rohland will be held at a later date.
