Lorraine Camelia Peel peacefully passed away in DeLand, Florida on October 25, 2026 at age 88. Born on December 15, 1937, in Carlinville, Illinois, Lorraine was the daughter of Norman J. Jasper and Edith Green and grew up on a farm outside the small town of Shipman, IL. She was predeceased by her parents and her older brothers, Gordon Jasper and Norman Jasper Jr.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 57 years, Galen Edward Peel Sr., her son Galen E. Peel Jr. "Skip" and his wife Jill, and her nieces, Julie Jasper and Angela Hope Jasper, the daughters of her late brother Norman, as well as her husband’s extended family.

Lorraine earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University in 1967. She taught fourth grade students in Illinois public education for over a decade before her family moved in 1981 to Forest, Virginia near Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest estate. She and Galen became active members of Thomas Road Baptist Church, supporting the many associated ministries and Liberty University. Lorraine taught children's Sunday School at Thomas Road for many years.

Lorraine and Galen were avid travelers, exploring over 25 countries through more than a dozen trips, sometimes visiting foreign missionaries they supported directly. In retirement, she further developed her skills at the piano, explored painting and art, and devoted herself to personal Bible study. Her faith was rooted in Jesus Christ, His redemptive work on the cross, with hope in the power of His resurrection.

Lorraine will be interred in the Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery at Amelia, VA on Wednesday, November 4 at 3 pm. A service to honor Lorraine will be held on Thursday, November 5 at 11 am in the Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. Visitation with the family will begin earlier at 10 am. The family requests that any donations given in Lorraine's memory be to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
