Terry A. Buchanan II, age 58, of Hardin, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on July 28, 1968, in Carrollton, Illinois, to Terry Buchanan and the late Carolyn (Lacey) Buchanan. On September 2, 1989, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Fuhler.

He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2 and dedicated 25 years of service to Bi-State Development before retiring in 2018. His strong work ethic, determination, and ability to fix just about anything were qualities that followed him both on and off the job. Retirement never meant slowing down for Terry. He enjoyed spending his days doing the things he loved most - hunting, mowing, cutting wood, and always finding something that needed fixing or tending to. He was also passionate about building hot rod engines and a couple of hot rods in his lifetime. Whether he was cutting firewood, turning wrenches, working on something that probably wasn't broken to begin with, or finding a way to make the impossible possible, he always seemed to have an answer. And if he didn't, you could bet he wasn't going to stop until he figured it out. He had a stubborn streak a mile wide, a sense of humor that could brighten any room, and a heart that was always willing to help someone in need. He never knew a stranger and always had time for a good story or laugh. He gave his time, shared his knowledge, and was always willing to lend a hand. Those lucky enough to have known him will forever carry a little piece of him with them, whether through something he fixed, something he taught them, a funny story or a memory that still brings a smile.

One of Terry's greatest passions was bow hunting whitetail. He spent more than 35 years pursuing whitetail deer and turkey. For him, hunting was more than just a hobby; it was a way of life.

Of all the things he accomplished in his life, nothing meant more to him than his family.  But of all the titles he held throughout his life, none brought him greater pride or joy than being “Papa” to his two, beloved grandchildren. They were truly the light of his world, bringing him happiness and joy that words could never fully describe. Being Papa was a role Terry was made for. He was always one step ahead of his grandkids, ready for whatever adventure, wild idea, or bit of mischief they could dream up. Whether he was teaching them how something worked, helping them with a project, or simply enjoying their company, he was creating memories that will last their lifetimes. His love for them was immeasurable, and the bond they shared will never be forgotten.

He is survived by wife, Mary; son, Ben Buchanan (Ashley) of Hardin; beloved grandchildren, Kolsen and Lynlee Buchanan; father, Terry Buchanan; brother, Todd Buchanan (Michelle), nephew, Trenton Buchanan; and niece, Madeline Buchanan.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Carolyn (Lacey) Buchanan.

Terry's passing leaves behind a space that can never truly be filled. His family will miss his laughter, his stubborn determination, his helping hands, and the comfort of knowing that no matter what went wrong, he would find a way to make it right. Though his tools may now rest and his work here on earth is done, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he made will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
