Susan I. Cox, age 71, of Belleville, IL, born on March 8, 1955, in Joliet, IL, died on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, MO.
“Here I would like to express my profound appreciation for my very best friend, Charlotte Wagner, my true soul sister and co-caregiver (besides my husband) without whose love, attention and compassion these last six months, especially would have been more unbearable than I/we could ever imagine. My heartfelt, gratitude goes out to my dearest friends, church family members and Koumbara, Adriana Wilbanks, the General of my prayer warriors and spiritual support, and lastly, but in no may least, my appreciation for Pam, always there.”
Some people rescue dogs, some rescue cats, but Susan was a rescuer of people. Anyone who spent any of their adult life with Susan knows that was her earthly mission. She did her best and, in her prayers, she hoped it made an impact.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene, nee Skiniotes Heitzman; and her sisters, Mary Lauterbach and Carol Heitzman-Walters.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, William “Bill” Cox; her children, Jared (Tasha) Sileven, Sarah (Aaren Vaz) Meister-Vaz, William (Camille DeMarco) Meister-DeMarco, and Jordan (Megan) Meister; ten grandchildren, Seth, Lydia, Drew, Kylie, Serena, Spencer Rene “Penny”, James, Eliah, Zeila, and Zathen; her sister, Bernadine Deininger; her brothers-in-law, Joseph Walters, Wayne (DeLane) Cox, and James (Janet) Cox; and Bill’s children, Marie Cox and Jarrod Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 405 Huntwood Rd., Swansea, IL 62226.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 405 Huntwood Rd., Swansea, IL 62226, with Fr. Achilles Karathanos officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
