Robert J. “Bob” Wildermuth, Sr., age 90, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on December 21, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at his residence.
Robert was the Captain of the Fairview Fire Department, where he served for 30 years. He was a boy scout leader, a railroad switchman, and a United States Navy veteran on the USS Kearsarge. He enjoyed being a hard-working man, a handyman, and a bird/squirrel watcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary, nee Newcomb Wildermuth; and his siblings, Mary Ann McSwiggan, Harry Wildermuth Jr., Arthur Wildermuth, Charles Wildermuth and Jeanette Hutter.
Robert is survived by his wife, Geraldine Wildermuth, nee Deering; his children, Michele (Karl) Sturm, Robert “Bob” Wildermuth, Jr., and Jerry (Stacy) Wildermuth; his grandchildren, Danielle Wildermuth, Britany (Brad) Borkowski, Anna Wildermuth (fiancé, Andrew Goedelman), John (Leanne) Wildermuth, and Matthew Wildermuth; his great grandchild, Isabella Wildermuth; and his furry friend, Doug. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews and family friends, including his care companion, Carolyn Gray, who encouraged Bob to sing with all his heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gateway Pet Guardians or to Camp I Am Me, an organization for young burn survivors, organized by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral Service will follow immediately after the visitation ends at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
