Anna “Ann” Belle Bartels, 93, passed away, Sunday, October 4, 2026 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
She was born on June 21, 1933 in Jersey County, Illinois, the daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Watts) Krause.
She married Gene Donaldson in June of 1951 before his passing on June 23, 1960. She later married Delbert Dale Bartels on Jan. 5, 1963 in Hartford, Illinois and together they shared 33 years of marriage before his passing on May 23, 1996.
She found great joy in the simple things in life, especially painting and spending time with and raising children. Her love for children extended well beyond her own family, as she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years. She also served as a program director at the Jerseyville Methodist church, where her faith, dedication, and love for others touched countless lives. Her commitment to her community and to helping others was also reflected through her membership in P.E.O.
A woman of determination, she was also a proud business owner in her younger years. In the early 1960s, she owned and operated Ann’s Fashion Shop in Jerseyville with her sister in-law Melba Krause, an accomplishment that reflected her entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic. Whether through her career, her church, her family, or her many interests, she lived a life centered around serving God and others.
She is survived by her children, Deana (Steve) Bowen of Hartselle, Alabama, Bradley (Stacey) Bartels of Jerseyville, Tim (Beth) Bartels of Jerseyville, Rick (Jody) Bartels of Pierre, South Dakota; a Daughter-In-Law, Marti Bartels of St. Louis, MO.; a sister, Roberta Egelhoff of Jerseyville, and a sister-in-law, Melba Krause of Paducah, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren, Tara Bowen, Lauren (Daniel) Fagerman, Michael (Monica) Bartels, Nicholas (Katelyn) Bartels, Evan Bartels, , Molly (Ethan) Suttles, Samuel Bartels, Jenifer (Ivan) Garcia, Amelia (Johnny) Garcia, Kathy Johnson, Jacob (Toni) Bartels, and Kimberly (Devin) Malone, and Chandley (Justin) Barnett; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Louis Bartels; a granddaughter, Christin Bowen; a brother, Robert Krause; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Pat McNabb; and a brother in-law, Robert Egelhoff.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Jerseyville Methodist Church where funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Graveside services will be immediately following at the Kane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jerseyville Methodist Church or to the Jersey Community Hospital Foundation.
