David Paul Scott, who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on September 23, 2026.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Kathleen (Newton) Scott of St. Louis, Missouri.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Karen Scott (Cleveland), of Edwardsville, Illinois, daughters and sons-in-law, Samantha and Shea Maples (Alton, IL) and Mariah and Matthew Campbell (Troy, IL); granddaughter Ellis Campbell; brother Steve Scott; Mother-in-law Betty Cleveland; brother- and sister-in-law Ed and Kim Cleveland; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family was an integral part of David’s life. David and Karen recently celebrated their 40th anniversary this past June and were able to reflect on a lifetime of memories filled with love and support. As his daughters grew up he prioritized his time spent with them and supporting them in their various academic and extracurricular activities. David was overjoyed with pride for his new granddaughter.

Faith was the driving force of how David lived his life. He was an active member of his church and devoted much of his time to ministry and serving others. He was a spiritual guide and mentor to many, including a prayer group he led with participants from, literally, all over the world. David was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His family and friends take comfort in knowing his deep and active faith.

Throughout his life, David had many different careers and experiences, reflecting his willingness to learn, work hard and take on new challenges. He worked in IT, owned and operated a restaurant, and most recently worked at a bank call center. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with his dogs.

David was a man who loved deeply, served faithfully, laughed often, and gave generously. His legacy lives on through the family and friends who were blessed to know and love him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 NIV
