Doug L. Greer, age 72, of Breese, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 24, 1953, in Pontiac, MI, a son of the late William Bobby and Hyacinth Helen (nee Childers) Greer.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Barb Greer (nee Albers), whom he married on March 10, 1973, in Carlyle, and she survives in Breese. Doug is also survived by his children, Jodi (Dale) Wessel of Carlyle, Robbie (friend, Shanay Stevenson) Greer of Breese, Leslie (Jeff) Grubb of Breese, Ben (Renee) Greer of Breese, Alycia (friend, Curtis Rakers) Greer of Beckemeyer, and Jamie (Keith) Rinne of Breese; grandchildren, Scott (Kayla) Pillow, Carly Pillow, Courtney Greer, Candice (Phillip) Coulby, Kayden Ambuehl, Nicholas (friend, Savannah Roeper) Hunter, Alexandria Hunter, Joshua Grubb, Alyssa Greer, Ethan Greer, Tyler Green, Chase Rakers, Bailey Foster, Caydence Rakers, Hayli Rinne, Emily Rinne, and Lucas Rinne; great-grandchildren, Braylynn Pillow, Parker Hunter, Amara Edwards, and Amelia Edwards; siblings, Jim (friend, Karen Gulley) Greer of Carlyle and Ed (Karen) Greer of Breese; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his grandson, Jaxon Greer; parents-in-law, Clarence and Marie (nee Fuhler) Albers; brother-in-law, Randy Albers; and sister-in-law, Christine Coates.
Doug was a hardworking man who spent his career as a self-employed bricklayer and was a member of the local bricklayers union. Even after retiring, sitting still was never really Doug’s style. He kept busy mowing lawns, tackling handyman projects, and lending a hand wherever something needed to be done.
Doug enjoyed the simple things in life, especially cutting wood and sitting down with a good cup of coffee. He had a big heart for animals and shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Buddy. Doug also took pride in keeping an eye on the neighborhood and was always watching out for those around him. Above all, he loved his family and treasured the time he was able to spend with them.
Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Pastor Jason McIntosh officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, October 5, 2026, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to the wishes of the family (checks payable to Barb Greer) and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
