Shirley Ann Somraty Pennock of Millstadt, IL passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the age of 80.
She was born February 7, 1946, in Highland, IL to John and Gertrude Somraty. Shirley was one of 11 children. After graduating from Triad High School, she worked as an Executive Secretary until she retired.
She married Jewel (Bud) Pennock in 1968, and moved to Millstadt, IL where they began their life’s journey together and raised their son.
Shirley enjoyed many hobbies, which included gardening (especially flowers). She also loved sewing, quilting and embroidering and made many keepsakes for loved ones and friends. Shirley worked for years organizing and creating a Genealogy book with priceless information for future family. She was proud of her Hungarian ancestry, and many times had stated how blessed she was for being born into such a large family. She never ever met a stranger, she always had a smile of happiness and joy wherever she went and would always be there if and when someone needed her.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Amy) Pennock of De Soto, MO, 4 stepchildren, Sherri (Dana) Montgomery of Columbia, IL, Larry (Brenda) Pennock of Waterloo, IL, Debbie Killy of Red Bud, IL, and Diane Nichols of Columbia, IL and many grand and great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by 4 sisters, Helene (Somraty) Stone of Grants Pass, Oregon, Bonnie (Somraty) Leffler of Worden, IL, Barbara Ann (Somraty) Holifield of Breese, IL, Candice Somraty of Troy, IL and one brother, Lawrence (Pat) Somraty of Troy, IL. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters, Rose (Somraty) Thornton and Mary (Somraty) Aegerter, and 3 brothers, John Somraty Jr., Tom Somraty, James Somraty.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Roger Wright officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
Shirley, you will be missed by all of us. But we will meet again. We Love You.
