Gary Richard McClain, 73, of Lebanon, IL, born on October 21, 1952, in St. Louis, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home in Lebanon, IL.
Gary was a lifelong musician, beginning to play piano at age 5 in St. Louis. He spent almost his whole life playing music in one way or another, either in bands or teaching others to play. Gary played piano in numerous bands in the St. Louis area for close to 50 years, most notably as a member of The Guild. One of Gary's favorite pastimes was to go to yard sales with Joy and collect DVDs and other knicknacks to keep around the house. Gary was also an avid animal lover, often caring for stray animals on the property for years.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Stan McClain and Shirley Brennen (nee Marshall); and daughter, Jamie Cook.
Left to cherish Gary’s memory is his beloved partner, Joy Cook of Lebanon, IL; two children, Julie Cook of O’Fallon, IL, Vincent (Lori) Cook of Zionsville, IN; one brother, James McClain (Angela); and four grandchildren, Vincent Cook, Jacob Ozee (Michelle), Nate Cook, and Tyler Cook.
