David Daryl Ross, 72, of Belleville, Illinois, born August 31, 1954, died peacefully on September 18th, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Ross (Loose), his daughters, Michelle (Matt) Rogers and Cheryl (Tom) DeSplinter, and his grandchildren; Kinsley and Everly Rogers, and Catie, Ellie, Jenny, Joey and Davey DeSplinter. Also surviving are his siblings; Juanita Fisher (Gary), Charles Ross, and Rebecca Krueger, and his Brother-in-Law, John Loose (Sue) and Sister-in-Law, Brenda Stein, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. David is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Jean L. Ross (Lee) and his Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, John F. Loose and Luella Loose (Meier), and Brother-in-Law, Richard Stein and Brother-in-Law, Jay Krueger.
David worked in the steel industry for over 44 years, retiring in 2019 from Steelpanel Distributors. His full-time job then shifted to doing what he truly loved - taking on house renovations, tackling new projects, and most of all, enjoying time with his grandchildren. He also loved Illini basketball, riding around in his convertible, and he always had bubble gum or Starbursts with him to share.
David was a hardworking and determined man whose many talents earned him the affectionate title of "Mr. Fix-It" among his family. There was rarely a problem he couldn't solve or something he couldn't build, repair, or figure out. He found so much joy in being able to fix something for someone, and happy to use his skills to lend a helping hand. However, he fixed so much more than just things. He was the person you could turn to when you needed advice, reassurance, or simply someone who understood. Beyond his talents, he will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, and generosity.
He faced his lung disease with unyielding courage and fierce determination, fighting every single day with a strength that inspired all of us. Until his last breath here on earth, he fought with remarkable bravery and an unbreakable spirit. His strong work ethic, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will leave a lasting legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or The American Heart Association in memory of David Ross.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 3:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
