Billy Joe Stoops, 85, of Shipman, IL, died at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 5:49 pm.
He was born August 26, 1941, in Flora, IL to George Stoops & Ollie O'Brien Stoops. He married Joyce E. Dooley Stoops on November 22, 1978 in Edwardsville, IL.
He was a mill maker for Olin Brass. He was a veteran after having served during the US Army. Billy had some patents on some bullets. Billy loved golfing, camping and being on a computer.
He is survived by his spouse, Joyce Stoops of Shipman, IL, son, Billy Stoops of Shipman, IL, step children, Tammy Ash of Brighton, IL, Toby Hughes of Shipman, IL, many grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, children, Darrell Stoops, Jeffrey Stoops, Keith Stoops, Terry Stoops, siblings, Earl Stoops, Floyd Stoops, Ivan Stoops, Leslie "Red" Stoops, and Betty Cunningham.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Public graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10:00 am at Shipman Cemetery, Shipman, IL.
