Kenneth Ray “Ricochet” Sternberg, of O’Fallon, Ill., born March 13, 1967, to Raymond and Peggy (née Younger) Sternberg, passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Diagnosed more than 14 years ago and given a grim prognosis, Ken fought valiantly and made the most of the years that followed—welcoming beloved grandchildren and watching his family grow.
Kenneth was a devoted husband to Brigid and a proud, loving father and grandfather. He retired from U.S. Steel and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. A loyal sports fan, he cheered for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Minnesota Vikings and the St. Louis Blues. He also loved hunting, fishing and being a supreme grill master.
He is survived by his wife, Brigid, nee Byrne, Sternberg; his children, Katelyn and her husband, Cody Bernardoni; Stephanie and her husband, Matt Benway, Kyle Sternerg and dear friend Jada, and; his siblings, Patricia “Patty” Sternberg, Keith Sternberg and dear friend Scott, and Kevin Sternberg and his wife, Marlo; and his especially beloved grandchildren, Colton and Caden; parents Ray and Peggy Sternberg; aunt Sharon (Chuck) Kistler; he will also be missed by his cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Ken will be remembered for his perseverance, devotion to family, and the joy he found in life’s adventures. His strength and love leave a lasting legacy in all who knew him.
Visitation: 3 – 6 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O’Fallon, Ill., and again at 9 am, Monday, September 28, 2026 at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 am, Monday, September 28, 2026 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., O’Fallon, Ill., with Fr. Jim Deiters presiding. Lunch will be served at 11 am at the church. Graveside Service will be at 12:30 pm, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
