Rene Ann Gowin, 87, passed away peacefully at 9:50 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026 at her residence after a period of declining health.
She was born in Denver, Colorado on January 10, 1939, one of two daughters born to Ted Ray and Essie Irene (Carmickle) Sisco.
Ann graduated from Southwestern High School in Piasa, and shortly after, she met a young man by the name of Robert Gowin at the ballpark in Kane. They instantly fell in love, and the two married on June 15, 1957 in Medora. Their marriage spanned nearly 68 years, a partnership rooted in faith, fortified by love, and admired by their family. Their marriage was blessed with four children, and through the years, their family blossomed to include nine grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Their love for one another became a shining example of what true dedication and love really means. After a very blessed life and many wonderful memories, Bob passed away on June 2, 2025.
Ann truly loved her family, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who lived her life by devout faith. She and Bob joined in fellowship of the Kane Baptist Church, where they were both very active in numerous capacities. They enjoyed making meals for the Youth Group, and they both served as Deacons and Deaconess until their passing. Always willing to assist wherever needed, the both enjoyed the yearly church services the church hosted at Beaver Dam State Park, spending several days before and after the event with other church family and friends.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Robert Alan and Reba Gowin, Kelly Rene and Tom Retzer and Gayle Leann and David Prough all of Jerseyville, and Ronald Eric and Joan Gowin of Maryville; nine grandchildren, Tracy (Ben) Gilmore, Tabitha (Don) Bortz, Jonathan (Alison Hill) Gowin, Jared Prough, Sarah (Amelia Gerke) Wilson, and her former husband, Kevin Wilson, Jillann (Brandon) Beasley, Drew (Kellie) Retzer, Katie (Nick Johnson) Gowin, and Ethan (Ellen) Gowin; 20 Great Grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, Edna Viola (Raymond) Cray of Garfield, Ar.; a brother in-law and three sisters in-law, Ronald (Pam) Gowin, Joyce Tappy and Meda Gowin.
Ann's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Gina, Brenda and Tiffany, for their compassion and love through the years.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Frank DeWitt will officiate.
She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to either the Ronald McDonald House in Saint Louis, Mo., or Tunnels to Towers.
