Jack Gene Kirn, passed away peacefully at his home in Golden Eagle, IL at the age of 92.
He was born November 23, 1933, in Golden Eagle, IL to Carl Sr. and Mayme (Kary) Kirn.
He married Mary Joann (Oettle) on August 21, 1954, 72 years, she survives.
Jack was a graduate of Brussels High School. He served in the U.S. Army and did an overseas European tour for two years. After serving in the Army, they resided in Georgia and then Pittsfield, IL working as a carpenter. After a short time, they moved back to Golden Eagle to take over and work the family farm that Carl Sr. started in 1929. Crops, cattle and hogs, orchard and orchard supply business, Kirn Trucking and Hauling and water hauling. He made countless trips to the National Stockyards in St. Louis and to Produce Row and just for whatever someone needed hauled or picked up. He also hauled thousands of loads of water to homes cisterns and sometimes a swimming pool to residents in Calhoun.
He also volunteered in many ways. He served as Commander for Brussels American Legion Post 685, he drove Calhoun County Ambulance for 15 years, he was a Point Volunteer Fireman, volunteered at St. Mary Church picnic and was a member of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau. For many years, he has been the caretaker for Cresswell Cemetery in Golden Eagle.
When they finally retired, he enjoyed going to Truman Lake fishing and spending time with the Kirn cousins. He enjoyed playing pinochle with them and also playing with pinochle players at AJ’s in Brussels.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children, Terry (Donna) Kirn, Debbie (Wess) Weinman, Cindy (Emil) Kuhn, and Susan (Steve) Rose; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ann) Kirn, Brent Kirn (Lauren Lampertti), Chris (Heather) Kasinger, Keith (Christy) Kasinger, Ariel (Greg) Miller, Ashley (Cody) Affholder, Lindsey (James) Tapp, and Haley (Kurtis) Weber; great grandchildren, Ethan, Carl, and Aubrie Kirn, Cash Kasinger, Mason and MaKenzie Kasinger, Iva Miller, Cohen and Cole Affholder, Lincoln, Maverick, and Clyde Tapp, and Kaden Weber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Darlene Kirn Logan, Carl Kirn Jr. Floyd Kirn, Robert Kirn, Margie Kirn, Patricia Kirn Bruce, and Fred Kirn; and son-in-law, Emil Kuhn.
Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2026, at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brussels at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Cresswell Cemetery.
