Mary Lou (Stone) Moore died peacefully in her sleep after 2 months of declining heath at Alton Memorial Rehabilitation and Therapy. She passed at 11:35 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Mary was born on March 6, 1936 at home on Prairie Del Road in Piasa, IL to Christy John and Elizabeth Johanna (Kruse) Stone.
Mary was of the Christian Evangelical Faith and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton, continuing her faith in The Lord Jesus Christ until her death.
She graduated from high school at Shipman High in 1953. Mary moved to Alton and went to work as a secretary for Mr. Todd's Law Office in East Alton, IL. In 1966 she went to work at Varion Insurance Co. in St. Louis until they moved to California in 1976. She also worked at Premier Aviation at St. Louis Regional Airport and Alton Memorial Hospital in the E.R. with admitting.
She married Charles M. Moore on May 29, 1969.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Moore, stepsons, Jeffrey Moore of Godfrey and Keith Moore of Colorado; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Shirley Berry and a former sister-in-law, Barbara Stone and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and infant brother, at birth, her brothers, Melvin, William, Virgil and Leon Stone, sisters, Roberta Burleson, Dorothy Eisenreich, and Marjorie Miller.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the funeral home. Private burial will be Brighton Cemetery.
