Catherine “Cathy” Lynn Richmond, age 45, of Alhambra, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Cathy was born on September 12, 1980, in Maryville, IL, the cherished daughter of Randy and Jane (Carruba) Hackethal.
Cathy will forever be remembered for her warm heart, infectious laughter, and the genuine kindness she shared with everyone she met. She was a devoted mother, loving daughter, caring sister, proud aunt, and loyal friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. Cathy had a creative spirit and loved making crafts, always finding happiness in bringing beauty and joy to others. She also had a deep love for animals and a compassionate soul that touched countless lives.
Those who knew Cathy knew her as someone who embraced life fully. Her smile could brighten any room, her laughter was unforgettable, and her loving presence brought comfort to all around her. Above all else, Cathy treasured the time she spent with her children and family, creating memories that will be held close forever. Her love, strength, and caring heart will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Matthew Hackethal; her grandmother, Catherine Carruba; and her grandparents, Bernard and Marion Hackethal.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved parents, Randy and Jane Hackethal of Alhambra; her loving children, Tyler Hackethal of Alhambra, Shane Carney of Granite City, and Brennen Carney, Landen Richmond, and Lilyian Richmond, all of Alhambra; her brother, Michael (Carolyn) Hackethal of Alhambra; her treasured niece, Morgan Hackethal; her grandfather, Anthony Carruba Sr.; her devoted boyfriend, Billy Turnbough; her beloved pets, Layne and Nova; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of Cathy’s life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL., with Pastor Mark Gause officiating. Cathy will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Granite City A.P.A. in honor of Cathy’s love for animals. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
