Mary Sue Connor, 87, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 7:57 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
She was born August 18, 1938, in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of the late Eugene and Viva Laswell. Mary married the love of her life, Charles Albert “Irish” Connor, on January 26, 1962, in Granite City, and he preceded her in death on October 5, 2025.
A faithful and devoted member of Calvary Life Church, Mary lovingly served on the hospitality committee and dedicated many years to assisting with funeral luncheons. She had a passion for cooking and took great joy in preparing meals for others. She also enjoyed gardening, floral design, and, most of all, spending cherished time with her grandchildren.
Mary will be remembered for her quick wit, kind heart, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her inner beauty, radiant smile, and loving spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She created countless special memories with her family and friends that will be treasured forever.
She is survived by her loving children, Jeff and Elizabeth Connor of Maryville and Tamara and Dan Brimm of Granite City; five grandchildren, Adam (Carolyn) Connor, Rachel (Andrew) Ribbing, Hannah (Steven) Trask, Clayton (Kayleen Welch) Brimm, and Christopher Brimm; six great-grandchildren, Nora, Hudson, Scarlett, Brynn, Esther, and Piper; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Jerry Newman; and her brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Ruth Laswell.
A celebration of Mary Sue’s life will be held at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road in Granite City, Illinois. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Mark Maynard and Reverend Dan Brimm officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Carbon City Cemetery.
