Maxine Marie Sauerwein, 91, of Bunker Hill, IL, died at Village of Holly Brook on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 4:58 am.
She was born March 2, 1934, in Alton, IL to Edwin Buhs & Ella Meyer Buhs. She married Paul Sauerwein on August 30, 1958. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Maxine was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Bunker Hill. She enjoyed going to the lake with her family, gardening, and shopping.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Leigh) Sauerwein of Bunker Hill, IL, daughter, Karen Street of Bethalto, IL, brothers, Larry (Sue) Buhs of Edwardsville, IL, Robert (Carol) Buhs of Godfrey, IL, many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, daughter, Rhonda Mize, grandson, Tyler Paul Street, siblings, Donald Buhs and Jean Bertels.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
Funeral services are Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill. Burial will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Bunker Hill, IL.
