Timothy Wayne Gilstrap, 71, went home to the Lord unexpectedly on February 21 2026 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL.

Tim was known for his love of conversation. He valued staying connected with family, friends, and anyone who took the time to answer his call-something he always made time for. He was often seen with his phone in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, fully present and ready to share in whatever was happening. His easy smile and steady presence made every interaction feel meaningful and sincere.

Tim joined the Navy in 1972 and after his service in the Navy ended in 1980, Tim spent his life in aviation, a field perfectly suited for someone who loved airplanes and flying. He also devoted countless Sundays to running sound at church. If you ever needed him, you didn't have to look far - just peek into the sound booth. He and his wife, Candy, also poured their hearts into Children's Ministry for many years, impacting more little lives than they probably ever realized.

When Summer and Fall rolled around, Tim could almost always be found relaxing at the campground, book in hand, soaking in the quiet and the trees like it was his own personal sanctuary.

Tim leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Candy; daughter Brooke; son Justin (Dee); brothers Richard (Yvonne), Ron, Steve (Anita), and Dan (Sonia); sisters Betty (Vernon), Pat, and Linda (Joe); and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Grace and his brothers Robert, Jim, Tom, and Will-whom we imagine he's already catching up with, probably telling a story or two.

Visitation will be held from 10am until time of service at 11am on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Abundant Life Church in Alton. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cunningham, Kansas at a later date. Memorials are suggested to All God's Children Shall Have Shoes.

Celebration of Life Service and Burial will be held in Cunningham, Kansas on April 4, 2026. Service will be held at the Cunningham Christian Church 125 West First Street at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow the service. Lunch will be served for those who would like to stay.
