Soon Duk Kim, age 92, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family

Born on February 16, 1933, in Seoul, South Korea, Soon Duk lived a life defined by devotion, resilience, and quiet generosity. She was the beloved wife of the late Sung D. Kim, and together they built not only a successful life, but a legacy rooted in hard work, family, and care for others. For many years, Soon and Sung owned and operated a hotel in Creve Coeur, Illinois, where her warmth and hospitality were felt by all who crossed her path.

Soon Duk will be remembered above all as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a cherished friend. She found her greatest joy in cooking for those she loved, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially delighting in spoiling her grandchildren. Her gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering love created a foundation that will continue through generations.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sung D. Kim, on February 21, 2022.

Soon Duk leaves behind her loving children, Hong C. (Moon S.) Kim, Hong K. (Won S.) Kim, and Kun H. (Kwang S. An) Kim; her grandchildren, Douglas Kim, Sujin (Jun Hwang) Kim, Jennifer (Chris Hwang) Kim, Eugene Kim, Eurick Kim, Dewey Kim, Katherine An, Alex An and Erin An; and her great-grandchildren, Stella, Damian, Lena, and Chloe. She is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In accordance with her wishes, Soon Duk will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband in Chicago, Illinois.
