Debra Ann Arnold, age 70, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. She was born on August 21,1955, in Collinsville, IL. Debra lived a life full of compassion, warmth, and quiet strength.
She will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend whose gentle spirit touched everyone she met. Debra had a deep love for butterflies, symbols of transformation and beauty that mirrored her own graceful presence. Her heart held a special place for animals, especially her beloved Pomeranians, who brought her endless joy and companionship.
Debra’s greatest happiness came from spending time with her family. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments, she embraced every opportunity to be close to those she loved. Her kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Patsy Ann (Young) Topal; her devoted stepfather, Thomas Topal; and her dear brother, Wayne Varady.
Debra leaves behind her loving sister, Candy Dortch of Granite City, IL; her caring stepbrother, Michael Topal of Granite City, IL; and her proud nieces and nephews: Nicole Woodruff of Granite City, IL; Corey Woodruff of Cabot, AR; Donald Varady of Wilmington, NC; and Nick Varady of Granite City, IL. She is also survived by extended family and friends.
Debra’s wishes were to be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
