Charles R. “Chuck” Elliott, age 87, passed away peacefully at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, with the blessing of his family and the loving care of the staff at Eunice Smith Nursing Home and BJC Hospice Care. Chuck was born in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas on April 27, 1930, to Mervin A. and Bessie M. (Lewis) Elliott. On November 11, 1950, he married Norma “June” Lockhart, in Lawrenceville, IL, and she survives. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Martha Shanks. One sister, Sally (Wesley) George, of Alpena, MI, survives. In addition to his wife and sister, Chuck leaves his two daughters, Lynda (George) Dixon of Alton, Peggy (Ray) Stillwell of Brighton; one son, Mark Elliott of Chicago; four grandchildren, Corey (Stacy) Dixon of Godfrey, Blake (Kendra) Ely of Alton, P.J. (Amber) Ely of Brighton, Kathrine Dixon of Chicago; three step-grandchildren, Kasha (Russ) Windmiller of Godfrey, Andrew Stillwell of Granite City, Michael Stillwell of Alton; ten great-grandchildren, Andrew Dixon, Emily Dixon, Matthew Dixon, Grant Ely, Grayson Ely, Gunnar Ely, C.J. Ely, Eleanor Ely, Miles Windmiller and Audrey Windmiller. Chuck was an Air Force veteran, a field engineer for IBM for 37 years, a longtime member and officer of Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton, IL as well as a lifetime member of Alton Little Theater, working behind the scenes. He was an artist, a photographer, a letter-writer, a problem-solver, and a good listener. Chuck was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Messiah Lutheran Church on Milton Road in Alton. Pastor Randy Fischer will officiate.
